Atlanta’s Only Reconstructionist Synagogue Will Host A Fundraising Auction On Saturday, Nov. 3

  • Name: Congregation Bet Haverim
  • Occasion: Fall fundraiser - Treasures, Travels & Tchotchkes

Congregation Bet Haverim (www.congregationbethaverim.org), Atlanta’s only synagogue founded by the gay and lesbian community in 1985 and now open to all Jews and their loved ones, will host “Treasures, Travels & Tchotchkes,” a live and silent auction on Saturday, November 3, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 1911 Cliff Valley Way, NE. Tickets are $36 per person (if purchased by Oct. 31; $40 at the door) and include admission to the auction along with complimentary beer and wine and a wide assortment of food.

“There will be something to suit everyone’s taste and budget,” said Sharyn Faro who together with Ellen Mazer is co-chairing the auction. “From dining certificates to professional services along with unique vacation packages and one-of-a-kind works of art….everyone will be able walk away with an affordable treasure while supporting Congregation Bet Haverim.”

Some of the featured auction items include: three pieces of art by well known and highly collectible painter, and CBH member, Abby Drue; a painting by Athens-based fine artist Caroline Montague; a number of fine dining certificates; antiques; jewelry; trips to exotic locations near and far; and a signed copy of the legal decision allowing same-sex couples the right to marry in Massachusetts. Known as the Goodridge decision, the document was personally signed by Chief Justice Margaret Marshall.

CBH member Brad Davidorf will serve as the evening’s auctioneer and will offer some 40 items to bid on in the live auction. “He is sure to keep the audience entertained,” added Dr. Faro. “Many of our guests will recognize Brad’s voice, as it is often used in a number of local commercials.”

“The evening promises to deliver something for everyone,” noted Ms. Mazer. If you are not the lucky bidder on one of the more than 150 items you may instead go home with one of the fabulous free door prizes. Whatever treasure you win, everyone will go home with a smile after the comedy drag show featuring Shenita Quit and Lori Divine.”
