Atlanta, GA – Local obstetrician Dr. Joseph Tate has won the inaugural REAL Award in the field of Newborn and Mother Care. He was selected from a large field of the best healthcare workers across the United States.

About Dr. Joseph Tate

After graduating from Yale University School of Medicine, Dr. Tate moved to Atlanta in 1980 and opened his solo OB/GYN practice. Dr. Tate also serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine, teaching medical students and residents essential skills in maternity care.

Locally known for giving Atlanta women the opportunity to pursue a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) and vaginal breech delivery, birth options that are difficult to find in Atlanta, Dr. Tate is an active member of the Atlanta chapter of the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN), a VBAC advocacy organization. Dr. Tate has helped hundreds of women VBAC, including two moms of triplets in recent years.

Dr. Tate was featured in a 2009 a segment of PBS’ Religion and Ethics Newsweekly that highlighted how his Orthodox Jewish faith influences his practice of medicine.

Dr. Tate is also a dedicated husband to his wife of over 40 years, and his six children and thirteen grandchildren.

About the REAL Awards

The REAL Awards (www.therealawards.com) honors health care workers in the US, and around the world, and recognizes the life-saving work that they perform every day.

Every year awards are given to recognize the accomplishments of celebrities, actors, singers, athletes and entertainers. This year we will begin to honor a group of people who rarely receive recognition or accolades - health workers who truly deserve our thanks and respect.

To honor health care workers, Save The Children has joined with The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Frontline Health Workers Coalition to help people around the world thank and salute health workers who are protecting health and saving lives daily.
