County Looking for Input on South Fork Peachtree Creek Clean-Up

DeKalb County Government is seeking public comments regarding preliminary aspects and activities of a Supplemental Environmental Project. The purpose of the project is to provide one-time trash and debris removal from the banks and streambeds of South River, South Fork Peachtree Creek and Snapfinger Creek, thereby improving overall quality and sustainability of the designated streams.

A series of meetings is planned in the general area of South River, South Fork Peachtree Creek and Snapfinger Creek to receive input and comments from the public regarding planned cleanups. These meetings are scheduled as follows:

• T, March 12, 6:30pm - 8pm
  Topic of discussion: South Fork Peachtree Creek Basin
• Wesley Chapel Library, March 19, 6:30pm - 8pm
  Topic of Discussion: Snapfinger Creek Basin
• Flat Shoals Library, March 20, 6:30pm - 8pm
  Topic of Discussion: South River Basin

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management staff will host these meetings; a brief overview of the SEP will be presented, after which citizens may view Basin maps, and provide specific information on locations of stream and bank impairments.

This project was undertaken in connection with the settlement of an enforcement action, United States et al. v. DeKalb County, taken on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Georgia Environmental Protection Division under the Clean Water Act and the Georgia Water Quality Control Act. Public involvement in the maintenance of the streams is encouraged.
