DeKalb County authorities executed search warrants Monday morning at the home and office of Burrell Ellis.
DeKalb County investigators searched the home and office of county CEO Burrell Ellis on Monday morning.
From a story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
Three unmarked police cars were parked outside Ellis’s home in the Southland subdivision, Channel 2 said.
The search comes on the same day as Ellis testified before a special grand jury investigating county watershed operations.
Ellis appeared before local media shortly before 1 p.m. and said he's unaware of any wrongdoing by him or those within his office related to the department's bidding. He also said he hasn't had any inappropriate contact with county vendors that do business with the department.
"We're just going to continue to cooperate [with the investigation]," Ellis said. "I don't know that I'm a target. … It's a pretty broad warrant they've issued."
He also so he was concerned for his visiting 83-year-old mother, who was the only person at his home when the search started. He and his department have cooperated with District Attorney Robert James' investigation since its beginning, he said.
"I'm not sure why they chose to do it that way, but they did," Ellis said of the morning search.
District 2 Commissioner Jeff Rader, in a brief phone interview, said it was too soon to comment.
"I really can't react to it," he said. "I really don't know any more than you do."

ummm...we may live in a zoo, but this incident in no way reflects that...by and by, we will finally learn the real reason major public leaders' files are confiscated. The old adage applies--don't read the news for whats in it...read it to ask what's not in it.

I`ve had the chance to meet Mr. Ellis on a few occassions in recent months at Dekalb functions and would be surprised if he is guilty of any wrong doing. but regardless, time will tell.

jimmie--are you saying "producers" can't be "low information"--and conversely all producers use all information available to make voting decisions? Unfortunately, because of the structure of monopoly news outlets and propaganda from all sides, it is nearly impossible for "producers" and whatever "non-producers" there may be to be well-informed in this nation, let alone this county.
The corruption in this county is the same as any North Georgia bootlegging county and only differs from many suburban counties (say Gwinnett and Cobb) by nuance (such as racial divide).
So under your premise, if you don't have enough information to connect the dots between Dekalb's history of bootlegging (and drug money), banking and judicial system corruption and those who have been elected for the past 75 years--and wonder if it really makes any difference within an equally corrupt electoral system--would you be a "producer" or not?

Too clever for days - Let's revisit your premise that the real news is what is NOT being reported, that intrigues me. In December, two, top DeKalb prosecutors left the DA"s office for Cobb County - Two simultaneous resignations, end of year, signals the career change was planned. Why?
Maybe those prosecutors did not share DA James vigor for prosecuting some of DeKalb's known issues - And a motivated observer knows these issues without the Cocks Plantation dribble.
That's really my point - Today a motivated observer can dig deeper and more quickly than say, Ms. April Hunt employer, AJC, will allow her to print.
Prior to the Brookhaven incorporation, a simple and cursory review of CEO Ellis's campaign contributions showed some mighty hefty donations funneled through a young, female attorney...
Most people disdain the political process; they would look at visiting GA Ethics, DeKalb Jail intake, as unseemly.
What do you think the 'hidden story" really is, Tom?

The problem in DeKalb and Clayton is that they are now a combination of "horribly corrupt and poorly managed" vs pre-2000 they were just horribly corrupt (they were extremely adept at "management").
The difference being of course, that the white politicians had 150 years to hone (and hide--and manipulate the news outlets) their lying and stealing practices making sure that voters stayed fat and comfortable.
The new guys are just in too big a hurry to get their "piece" and they make great news fodder for what our blogger "BurrellJustRousted" calls "Cocks Plantation".

You are correct about the Legislature--and yes, it will happen anywhere where power is perceived as absolute (Dems in Ga since inception). But what you say is they are in such a hurry to grab everything, they are obvious about it--and will be proven sloppy. It's called "overreach" and will hit the fan. BTW--Jim Galloway, being from the old Progressive guard, will report on the march to hell with gusto.
