Jimmy John's Sandwiches Headed for Toco Hill

The gourmet sandwich shop will move in next to Famous Pub.

Another popular fast-casual brand is coming to Toco Hill.

Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches will soon open in Toco Hills Promenade, according to Tomorrow's News Today.

From the story:

Champaign, Illinois-based Jimmy John's is opening on the cusp of Toco Hills Promenade early next year.  The "gourmet sandwich" franchise has grown its metro presence quite a bit over the past few years, adding multiple Buckhead and midtown locations, as well as restaurants in Decatur, Sandy Springs and Norcross.

Toco Hills Promenade is the Publix-anchored center near the corner of North Druid Hills and Clairmont Roads.  The adjacent Kroger-anchored Toco Hill shopping center is located near the intersection of North Druid Hills and LaVista Roads.  The centers appear to be one, but to the right of the upcoming Jimmy John's is the separation between the two centers.  (To the right of Jimmy John's is Famous Pub.)

I've have limited interaction with this brand. I ate there a few times in college. One of my roommates was a delivery guy there and stole one of their giant menu boards, which was quickly turned into a beer pong table. That worked. I remember thinking their sandwiches were OK.

What about you? Have you had Jimmy John's? And are you pleased they're coming to Toco Hill? Tell us in the comments section below.

Another chain restaurant in Toco Hills...
When an independent restaurant opens at TH let us know. I have lived walking distance from Toco Hills for 16 years and haven't been to most of the chains. Why do so few independents open at TH. Is it because TH is a place of convenience rather than a place of destination?

All good questions. I'm sure that's part of it. I imagine some of it has to do with chain restaurant companies having the sort of capital to expand in a still-sagging economy. And if you're opening an independent restaurant, you probably want to join a cluster of those restaurants. Which is why you see that in Oak Grove to a significant extent. There have been a few originals recently though. Red Pepper Taqueria, for example. Also, I think there's a new Indian place or two in Patel Plaza. Again, these are more examples of clustered, independent restaurants.

Several non-chain places in Toco. Goldberg's- Chris' Pizza- Top Spice- I think Ace's is locally owned- these places have more than one location but I don't really consider them chains.

Just what Toco needs - another restaurant. The parking is already a nightmare since they are almost 100% buit out now.

Terrible sandwiches bought mostly by people charged with feeding several individuals at the same time with the least offensive (read "tasty") option available. You'd be much better served buying your sandwich at the Publix deli.
