Lakeside Tennis Loses in Class AAAA Playoffs

Both the Vikings and Lady Vikings are eliminated from the state AAAA high school tennis playoffs.

The Lakeside High Vikings and Lady Vikings tennis teams made the GHSA's tennis playoffs at the AAAA level, but both have been eliminated in the first round earlier this week.

The boys' team lost 3-1 to Cobb County's Kell High on April 25 and the girls' team lost 4-0 to Pope High, also from Cobb County, on April 24.

Other DeKalb County schools didn't fare so well in the playoffs, either. The Dunwoody High girls' team lost 3-2 to North Paulding High and the Chamblee High girls' team was beaten 3-2 by Kell while the Chamblee boys' team lost 5-0 to Pope.

Only Dunwoody will advance to the second round after the boys' team defeated Cobb's Sprayberry High 3-1.

Lakeside won the AAAAA state championship in boys tennis in 2001 when they defeated Collins Hill. Alas, it is not to be this year. Good job guys and better luck next year. PS: according to an article last year in The DeKalb Neighbor, Lakeside has more state championships (35) than ANY DeKalb County high school.

It's good team this year--better next year--even with #1 doubles team graduating. AAAA actually may be deeper than AAAAA right now. Not even close in DeKalb. Is there any truth to the rumor that Lakeside moves to AAAAA next year?
