Little Caesars to Replace Mexico City Gourmet
The national pizza chain will replace the popular Mexican restaurant that shut its doors in December.
Little Caesars is moving into the North Decatur Road space vacated by Mexico City Gourmet in December.
This might sound like a loaded question, but how do you guys feel about another pizza chain moving into town?

Little Caesar's is a lousy trade for Mexico City Gourmet which was a real white table cloth restaurant. This is a another sign of the dumbing down of DeKalb's eating tastes and choices. Why are all the good affordable restaurants at Virginia Highland (and Ponce in Decatur)? Because there is a better environment of buildings, shops, and ambience. DeKalb strip malls don't cut it anymore.

Mexico City shot themselves in the feet with crappy service. I ate there on & off for 20+ years, and then at least monthly once I moved over here. All of a sudden, their service was surly, they were automatically adding a 15% gratuity for a party of four, and they did not even apologize for one dinner coming out of the kitchen 15 minutes after the rest, never mind offer compensation. We stopped going there. Plenty of places to go where they are wanting to make you happy! Sad, because we enjoyed the food & drinks for a long time.

Amy, I do not dispute your account that Mexico City Gourmet brought on its own demise. BUT, my point is that the space was not reoccupied by another "sit down" restaurant but a fast food Little Ceasar's. In terms of image, actual nutrition, and most likely in terms of tax revenues generated, it is a lesser business and a net loss to the community. North Decatur Plaza and the Druid Hills area will not be helped by a string of fast food restaurants which are now the only kind in the three shopping centers at North Decatur Rd. and Clairmont. Evan's is now the "class" eatery on all four corners. Unfortunately, real estate "professionals" and potential tenants look at the image of this area in this fashion whether you and I like it or not. Don't expect any nice restaurants any time soon.
