Local Pastor Named State Chaplain of the Day

Rev. Marti Keller from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta was welcomed by an Atlanta state senator at the lieutenant governor.

A local pastor was named Georgia's Chaplain of the Day last week.

Sen. Nan Orrock (D-Atlanta) and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle welcomed Reverend Marti Keller from the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta to serve as the Chaplain of the Day on Monday in the Georgia Senate.

“Reverend Keller is always innovative in spearheading new programs to provide resources and volunteering her time to those in need across metro Atlanta,” Orrock said. “Her message encouraged us to remember that what we do matters, and reminded us that the stories of our lives are still being written.”

At the church, Keller focuses on social justice, denominational work, small group ministry and adult education. She is the president of the Unitarian Universalists Women’s Federation and is also a published poet with the chapbook Prickly Pear.

“We welcomed Reverend Marti Keller to the Senate as she inspired each of us with a stirring devotional and prayer,” Cagle said. “As public servants, we should strive not only to hear the word of the Lord at the beginning of each Senate gathering but to put it in practice with the decisions we make. We are blessed to have wonderful clergy leaders like Reverend Keller, and I thank her for the inspirational message."
