Rezoning on Lawrenceville Highway for New RaceTrac Store?

Residents around McLendon Elementary School plan to attend a May 9 meeting about the rezoning application.

North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch reader Becky Baldwin sent over a notice about a rezoing application meeting next week that's got some neighborhood people rattled.

Some of them are planning to attend a meeting at McLendon Elementary School on May 9 about RaceTrac's plans to rezone property along Lawrenceville Highway between Orion and Hollywood drives south of North DeKalb Mall.

According to a notice issued to community members, the land is currently zoned RM-HD (or Multifamily Residential District, according to the most recent copy of zoning district definitions I could find for the county) and RaceTrac wants it rezoned as Office-Institutional, which allows for lower intensity offices, institutions and health service activities where buildings are limited to two stories.

The meeting will be held in the school's cafeteria from 7pm - 8pm.

And if you're not familiar with RaceTrac, they're a big QuikTrip competitor.

So, what do you think about RaceTrac's rezoning application? Do you support it? Tell us in the comments section below.
