TCBY Wins Best Frozen Yogurt Spot

The well-known store beat out the very popular Menchie's and Bruster's.

TCBY on Briarcliff Road took this week's Readers' Choice poll as the best place to go for frozen yogurt.

The well-known frozen yogurt brand beat out the very popular Menchie's and Bruster's to take the prize. Menchie's received the vast majority of the votes, but TCBY's highest ranking put it over the edge.

TCBY is located in the Loehmann's shopping plaza on the corner of Briarcliff and North Druid Hills roads. It is part of a national chain of yogurt and ice cream shops. TCBY offers ice cream, yogurt, smoothies and ice cream cakes.

I like TCBY -- have been going there since the 80's, though less in recent years -- and I'm curious what the "highest ranking" means. Looks like TCBY received no votes and no comments in the poll, so I'm curious how it was named the winner. As I say, I like TCBY and I have no dog in this race, but I'm really curious about how a business can win a poll without any actual votes/comments for it.

It all comes down to our rules, which you can read in a PDF if you go to poll page. Even though TCBY received zero votes, it came in third (odd, I know), so it got points for that. A business in a poll can also get points for ratings on its listings page. TCBY was the only business with a user rating, so it received additional points while none of the other businesses were rated, so they couldn't receive extra points. The Readers' Choice feature places an equal weighting on business ratings as it does poll votes.

Thanks, Jonathan. I can't pretend that I understand, but I appreciate your explanation. I guess that means that when I look at reviews and ratings on Patch, I should pay attention to the listings and not to the polls. Weird, but now I know. :)
