Walmart's in Suburban Plaza, That Pottery Place is Out

Since the international retailer is moving into the shopping center, That Pottery Place is moving to North DeKalb Mall, the studio said on its website recently.

That Pottery Place in Suburban Plaza is moving.

Not a huge surprise since it's been known for some time that the incoming Walmart Supercenter – and the shopping center's redevelopment – is going to force out most of the existing tenants.

Regardless, That Pottery Place announced on their website recently that they're headed to North DeKalb Mall and open July 2. (Decatur Metro whooped me on this one.)

From the studio's website:

Yes, the Wal-Mart cometh and we must goeth – but we aren’t going very far and we’re going to a fresher, larger studio to serve you better – and with longer and later opening hours!

We will stay open at Suburban Plaza through July 1st and then on July 2nd, we will reopen less than a mile away at the North DeKalb Mall in a lovely 2,800 square foot studio right on the mall food court, and just steps away from the rear entrance to the AMC movies and Applebee’s.

It'll be interesting to see where the shopping center's other tenants end up. What do you guys think? Is this a good move for That Pottery Place? How will the new location effect their business? Tell us in the comments section below.

Hope That Pottery Place is happy at the mall. I'd love for any new places to move in there and help revive it a little.

N. DeKalb needs some new business, and is a perfect spot for That Pottery Place. I'm thrilled to see them going there, and will be equally thrilled when Walmart finally arrives at Suburban.

Being that the Wal-Mart thing is going to happen no matter what, I'm hoping it could be a good move for TPP and North DeKalb Mall. I hope all of Suburban Plaza's fervent supporters will also show their support for the floundering mall down the street.

Until Walmart opens its doors we can't say it's going to happen no matter what. The permitting process has just begun and already the county has found problems with Walmart's plans. The second traffic study was finally submitted by Selig and recommendations like a widening of North Decatur Road at Scott for another turn lane are troublesome. Who's going to pay for that? DeKalb sure doesn't have funds for that. Good Growth DeKalb continues to meet with elected officials and to try and meet with Selig. Walmart is still not a done deal.

The mall is thrilled to have That Pottery Place and think it's the perfect use by the food court. GAS-ART is a new mall store opening in the next week or two, selling childrens books by the award winning illustrator Gregory Christie; Gregory will also be doing art classes for kids. Golden Corral is also coming to the mall, locating in the parking lot section where the carnival has been located in past years; work should begin in early August. North DeKalb Mall is focusing on food and family when leasing space, and is trying to reach out to the community, hoping people act on the mall's current slogan and "Reconnect with North DeKalb Mall".
