What Should Go Here?
This week we take you to Shamrock Plaza. And the site of an old Blockbuster store that closed a few years ago. What should replace it?
When North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch had no job nearly four years ago, we wanted to work at a movie rental store. We watch a lot of movies anyway. We didn't need much money back then, the economy was a horror show and we were working on other things. We desired only part-time work.
Even though we lived in Decatur proper, our quest to work in the movie rental industry took us to Shamrock Plaza – until about two years ago, the site of a decent Blockbuster where we were almost named some sort of shift manager. We don't really remember what happened there. Regardless, we wouldn't have been employed long anyway. The store was closed down along with many in the area as Blockbuster found its profits squeezed across the country by Netflix, Redbox, the Internet and cable television.
Last week, we asked you what should replace the old Checker's restaruant across the street. So, now, we ask you, dear readers, what should open up in Blockbuster's stead at 3934 North Druid Hills Rd.? Another retail store? A restaurant? Tell us in the comments section below.

Would love to see a bagel place, coffee ,etc. type shop. I am tired of going towards Toco Hills or Northlake to get Bagles and/or coffee in the mornings. Why does Toco Hills need 3 bagel places in a one block radius and two established coffee shops. Our neighborhood is well established with young families and professionals. On the flip side a great local pub type for lunches and dinner woudl be great so neighborhood families could walk and enjoy a nice night out.

I also, would love to see a local pub with a different style food other than "bar food".
Maybe some live music.

It would be nice to see a 'cultural arts' center in the space; ask Onstage Atlanta if they'd be interested in re-locating there and there's the makings of a smallish center for arts. Similar to "Art Station" in Stone Mtn. area. There are no good cultural activities in the area; Shamrock might be a good place to start.

Cultural center is interesting--out of the box idea. Whatever goes here will be shortlived. Ivey's comment above is telling--three bagel places up the road, nothing at the besotten Larry-ville Hwy intersection. Its a transitional area--very confusing to national tenants. All four corners need to be planned as a live/work/play town center--complete with mass transit.

a bakery or coffee house. and a darn good one to boot....the real deal...the good stuff. we need a non- chain morning and lunch destination....don't we?
an art center of any kind...drop off. fun stuff where kids can get creative ....bounce houses make it.....let's get our kids into more hands on stuff...and not send them to money making, slot machine havens...

Hancock Fabrics can move over to Shamrock Plaza when they get kicked out of Suburban Plaza.

That a great idea, but is that store as big as its current location? They will truly be missed!
