Sophia Academy Remembers Sept. 11 with Special Chapel Service

Students at Sophia Academy gathered for their weekly chapel on Monday, September 12, but with a special intention in mind:  remembering the victims and families of 9/11 with a service emphasizing “Peace.”

Eighth grade students read scripture and lit candles as part of the service.  Grade level teachers came forward with students to read two words for “peace” written in languages from around the world.  The words for “peace” were written on paper angels which the teachers and students affixed around a large wreath that held a picture of the globe.

In the end, it looked like angels of peace were surrounding the earth.  Students were led in singing “He’s got the whole world in His hands” and were shown a video depicting 9/11 families and remembrances of their loved ones.  Everyone took time to pray for the families of the victims and then greeted one another a handshake as a sign of peace, saying “peace be with you” to each of their neighbors.

Sophia Academy is a private, Christian school in DeKalb county serving students in grades PreK-9.
