CVI update

Ted Baggett of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government in his comments yesterday at the House Government Affairs Committee reported that all three of the Cityhood analyses they are working on (Lakeside, Briarcliff and Stonecrest) will be completed in November and December.

Seems as though another of Kevin Lievitus' statements was untrue. He said in that meeting last week that the CVI study for Briarcliff wouldn't be done until February. It's too bad that facts get in his way all the time.

Herman: How did you get that information? if you have more information about the role of the govt affairs committee in vetting cityhood placeholders, pls write a blog post. Also, anything you know about the re-invention of the Brookhaven CVI and map would be helpful. You can see there's a great deal of interest in the process here and it all seems very unspecific.

Herman 2: What else did Baggett say?
Herman Lorenz October 22, 2013 at 03:10 PM
He talked for a couple hours. It was mostly about generic county/ city laws. Several comments about current issues. But he didn't volunteer anything about the studies. This comment was in answer to a specific question by a member of the committee. I don't know what you're referring to about the "reinvention of the Brookhaven CVI and map". That committee is the one that handles all new city legislation and annexation, among other things like changes to County governments. They're about to get really busy.

Herman, I am curious as to how this particular presentation ever came about. Is the Government Affairs Committee meeting these days, and, if so, are they looking into the incorporation proposals? As the General Assembly is not in session now, and won't be until January, the fact they are meeting now should be of great concern to all the cityhood groups.
Herman Lorenz October 22, 2013 at 03:30 PM
They had a regularly scheduled meeting yesterday to discuss their issues for the coming year. I wasn't there in the morning, but I was told that they were going to discuss city issues in the afternoon, so I dropped in.

Thanks for the info! I don't know why, but the fact these folks are meeting now truly concerns me. Perhaps its because they're meeting without any ADULT supervision?
Herman Lorenz October 22, 2013 at 04:02 PM
rwf: yeah. You weren't there! btw: i still owe you a beer.

mikeati....not sure but I think I heard Kevin say that Briarcliff BILL would be introduced in February two weeks after Lakeside Bill.

Tom.... think we may need to file some open records requests.

herman-you said:"rwf: yeah. You weren't there! btw: i still owe you a beer." What does that mean?

Here's a portion of the last meeting for those who are interested. About 8 minutes of biting my tongue was all I could take. http://youtu.be/YErvc086aGI

Tom.....Me thinks some of us need to get together for a beer at Moe's. I'm just a concerned citizen. The Briarlake Map is out for publication without my comment and I ordered other City maps from the GIS Dept yesterday. More good stuff should be on the way in about another two weeks.
