Original Star Wars parody to premiere in Atlanta

The Spirit of Broadway presents an original show for 2013, The Skywalkers, benefiting the Compassion Programs of theMetropolitan Community Center in Atlanta, GA. This hysterical atypical Star Wars parody, written by Trevor Petty,  is "honest and respectful to each and every action in the six film saga." However, Petty saw an opportunity to create story lines, motives and intentions not originally in any of the movies. The Skywalkers will be performed on Saturday, August 24, 213 at 8pm at theFirst MCC Theatre.

All in all, the "A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away" audience will get to enjoy an evening of great singing, fantastic dancing, exciting stories, and an auction of both Star Wars memorabilia, and non-Star Wars items & gift baskets.  Petty said,  "I further explore the popular Internet 'conspiracy theory' that Vader, along with the help of his family, sabotages the Death Star, and also delve into a power struggle between newly revealed allies Darth Vader & Princess Leia, who learns, that as an adopted daughter to a royal family, she will get none of those royal benefits she's expected her whole life. No royal throne, no royal inheritance, no royal influence....about the only thing she receives is a royal sucker punch. All of that is enough to reconsider her allies."

Whether you are a fan of Star Wars or not, this show will be fun, easy-to-understand and unforgettable. As with all the Star Wars movies, kids are a primary target-audience...right along with dudes who like space explosions, chicks who like a good love triangle and parents who like the occasional subtle innuendo of a Disney movie. Grandparents will also enjoy this show about a three generational family learning to cope with unlimited powers and their struggle to control the galaxy.

Additionally, we see Luke's eye opening internal struggle to decide to "openly defy his Jedi Masters, Yoda & Obi-Wan, and then justify his rogue actions with the fact that The Jedi's short sighted, arrogant actions caused all the galaxies woes to begin with," which might, or might not, be cheered, or jeered by Star Wars 'fanboys' & 'fangirls', alike.

You can find the trailer here or go to The Skywalkers on Facebook for more info. Tickets are available for $20 each or 2 for $30 and can be purchased at here. Bring your check book or credit card to the show and bid in the silent auction to help raise even more funds for this great cause. The Spirit of Broadway benefits the Homeless Outreach Programs of the Metropolitan Community Center. 100% of all proceeds fund the Food Bank, Weekly Hot Meal for the Needy, The Clothing Closet and all Compassion Programs.
