“I was very excited to win, I’m glad because this is something new to me. It’s always exciting when you win something,” said Dougherty. “I didn’t have any idea what to do in the beginning, so I talked to a friend who runs every marathon from Chicago to Florida to Georgia. She just told me how big of an accomplishment it is, so I thought it would be kind of interesting to say hey you’re running 138,435 feet.”

Contest and competition:

Over 40 students currently enrolled in the Savannah College of Art and Design’s graphic design program participated in the eighth annual Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon poster design contest. The goal of the contest was to create a piece of art in 13 hours and 1 minute (coinciding with the 13.1 miles of the half marathon) unique to Georgia that incorporates the passion, health and fitness of running and the excitement of the event.

"This poster contest has been a success for eight races. SCAD students never fail to impress with their work, making it a difficult decision for the judges," said Jeff Graves, Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon race director.  "The talent that this group shows is unmatchable, and the winning poster will proudly signify the important image of the race throughout the weekend’s festivities.”
