Be Kind: It's World Kindness Day!

It doesn't take much to be kind, so today, be intentional and generous with your kindness.

It doesn't take much to be kind. In fact, it may take more to be rude or unfriendly. Today is World Kindness Day, a day to intentionally do good.

World Kindness Day is the kickoff for a weeklong celebration of passing along kindness to your fellow man. Some say it began in the mid-1990s with The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, while others say it began at the general assembly of the World Kindness Movement.

Being kind can be as simple as holding the door for someone who has her arms full. Maybe it's purchasing the coffee for the person behind you in line at Caribou or at Cafe Jonah. You could even just let someone in a hurry take your place in line at the grocery store or during lunch hour today.

Being kind to others can also be a selfish thing. Research has shown that being kind is good for you.

In September, Emory University published research that showed that compassion meditation could significantly improve a person's ability to read facial expressions of others and boost overall key aspects of empathy.

Every little bit helps, and on a subconscious level, we all notice kindness. Small acts of kindness certainly add up and can change a person's day. Acts of kindness have a ripple effect. People who experience kindness have a tendency to want to pay it forward.
