DeKalb Animal Services Offering Deal on Overlooked Pets

Nearby Dunwoody: Any animal that has been available for adoption at the shelter for more than two months may be adopted for no fee. Others are $20.

DeKalb County Animal Services (DCAS) is offering a special promotion called ‘Shelter Classics’ to give animals that have been at the shelter more than one month a better chance of getting adopted.

During October, all dogs and cats that have been at the shelter for over a month are only $20. Additionally, any animal that has been available for adoption at the shelter for more than two months may be adopted for no fee. Standard adoption screening criteria still applies All adopted pets will be spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm or combo tested and dewormed – services with a retail value of over $200!

According to DCAS Director Susan Feingold, the goal of the promotion is to find homes for animals that have gone unnoticed. “Many of these animals have been overlooked simply because they are dark colored, our shelter lighting is poor and the grates they lay on are dark, so people literally don’t see them,” said Feingold in a statement. “By spotlighting these animals, and offering great adoption fees, we hope they’ll get adopted quickly.”
