Five Things to Do This Weekend

Power pop, boys basketball, button making, totally gratis chestnuts and more.

Brace yourself for another weekend in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff community. Here's your (possible) itinerary...

  • Umajets, a musical collaboration between Rob Aldridge and Tim Smith, is playing tonight. We don't know much about the band, but they're listed as "power pop" and "alternative rock" on last.fm. Napoleon's hosts musical acts frequently. Take a chance. Could be a good time.
  • An extra heads up for people who have button purchasing on the agenda this weekend: It wouldn't be a terrible idea to buy them at Michael's, 4000 Lavista Road, Tucker, tomorrow. If you buy buttons, you'll also be able to learn how to make your own colorful button rings. This may only excite a subset of our readership, but if you're into buttons, you're probably really into buttons, so you're welcome. The event runs from 10am - noon.
  • If you're unopposed to driving, check out 's boys basketball team take on MLK in the first round of the DeKalb County School System's 5th Annual Holiday Basketball Tournament. Game starts at 8:30pm, Martin Luther King, Jr. High School, 3991 Snapfinger Road, Lithonia. Go Vikings.
  • presents "Sing Noel," a collection of seasonal songs performed by the church's choir, soloists, orchestra and the congregation. A Christmas cantata will also be performed. Service starts at 10:30am Sunday.
  • Patch is an earnest supporter of free food wherever it's found. Which is why we've gone and included Whole Foods Market as one of the five places to go this weekend for the second time in as many weeks. The grocery store will give out free roasted chestnuts tomorrow between noon and 2pm. They'll be available again Sunday at the same time. The real challenge, however, is whether you can manage to get in, consume some chestnuts and escape without buying anything. Grocery stores are designed to foil your plans in this respect. Good luck.

That's it? There's nothing else? Not one thing?

Dead wrong, dear readers. There's tons of stuff. Our events section is open for your perusal.
