Whole Foods on Briarcliff to Donate to Local Seniors

The grocery store will give 5 percent of its net sales to Senior Connections on Jan. 11, which it's dubbed "Community Giving Day."

"What a great way to start 2012!" said Debra Furtado, CEO of Senior Connections, when she learned her local non-profit organization was designated to be the recipient of the ' Community Giving Day on Jan. 11 at the store's Briarcliff location, the first Community 5% Day of the year. Senior Connections, which seeks to maximize independence for seniors through advocacy, in-home services and meal deliveries, will receive 5 percent of the day’s net sales at the Whole Foods Market on Briarcliff Road.

"Our Community 5% Days are one meaningful way we give back to our community," said Jayme Persons, marketing team leader of Whole Foods Market on Briarcliff. "On certain days throughout the year, customers help support our selected organizations just by shopping at our store!"

Furtado encouraged Atlanta residents to come shop at the store at 2111 Briarcliff Rd. NE from 8am - 10pm on Jan. 11.

"Receiving 5 percent of net sales is a great boost for us, especially during the winter months. This contribution will allow us to provide urgently-needed services to deserving seniors throughout the metro Atlanta area," she said. "At the same time, Whole Foods shoppers may learn more about Senior Connections, especially about our focus on senior citizen health and wellness through such programs as Meals on Wheels and medical nutrition therapy."

Senior Connections offers a range of quality services provided by skilled professionals and community volunteers that allows seniors to remain in their own homes and maximize their independence. Starting as a small nonprofit agency in DeKalb County almost 40 years ago, the organization is now one of the largest home and community-based provider in the state and helps thousands of metro Atlanta and middle Georgia seniors annually.
