Atlanta-area malls raise more than $112,000 to support students’ continuing public education; Generous donations from Beck, Dixie Electric, S&S Contractors and others help raise funds
The lanes at 300 Atlanta were packed with nearly 35 Atlanta-area companies for the fifth annual “Bowling For Education” fundraiser, held on Thursday, November 5, 2013. The event, which supports the Simon Youth Foundation, raised a record-breaking $112,250 this year, exceeding the initial fundraising goal of $100,000.
“We could not be more thrilled about the success of this year’s Bowling for Education event,” said Leslie Bland, co-chair of Bowling for Education in Atlanta and Director of Marketing and Business Development for Phipps Plaza. “We’re so grateful for the incredible enthusiasm from our Simon family and for the generous donations from all our committed partners. The immense support for this annual event has helped Simon Youth Foundation provide more and more educational opportunities for our future Georgia leaders.”
The fun-filled evening featured a silent auction, some friendly bowling competition and a fabulous spread of food and drinks. The silent auction, which included a variety of gifts from Broadway in Atlanta, Pike Nurseries, The Fresh Market and more, helped to raise over $5,000 in additional funds for the foundation. Popular items included Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Hawks tickets, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Tickets, Kate Spade wallets and a Kay Jewelers diamond necklace.
Since the inception of this fundraiser in Atlanta five years ago, the Atlanta-area Simon malls, with support of local businesses, have proudly raised more than $500,000for Simon Youth Foundation. All funds raised during “Bowling for Education” benefit Simon Youth Foundation. The organization’s mission is to help support students considering dropping out of high school by providing them with the set of skills they need to pursue secondary education and career paths. Simon Youth Foundation helps at-risk youth achieve success through Simon Youth Academics as well as scholarships. The foundation provides more than $10,000 in scholarships to graduating Georgia seniors annually and has awarded more than $230,000 in the last twelve years.
The event was made possible with generous contributions from Beck, Dixie Electric, JJ Morely, S&S Contractors and other friends of Simon Youth Foundation. “Bowling for Education” is organized and presented by the Atlanta and Carolina-area Simon Malls: Sugarloaf Mills, Lenox Square, Northlake Mall, Mall of Georgia, Phipps Plaza, Town Center at Cobb, SouthPark, Haywood Mall, Anderson Mall, North Georgia Premium Outlets and Calhoun Outlets.
