Food, Fun, and Frights this Weekend

Places to go and things to do recommended by someone "In The Know".

Little Five Points Halloween Festival and Parade, Saturday, October 20th, 10 am to 11 pm.
If you haven’t experienced this wild event or have gone year after year, this is a parade you don't want to miss.  Everyone lets loose and dresses up for Halloween and cheers on the ghoulish parade which is sometimes graphic with blood and guts and can also include “adult content”.  With that said, there are lots of kids whose parents are more adventurous and those kids have a blast!  In addition to the world-famous parade, music starts at 12 noon on two stage, food vendors and an artist’s market along Euclid Avenue from 12 noon to 10 pm.  The parade runs from 4 pm to 6 pm.  Be sure to arrive early for the parade, it gets really crowded.  http://l5phalloween.com/?page_id=12

Autumn Fest, Avondale Estates, Saturday, October 20th, 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday, October 21 12 noon to 5 pm.
For something more tame and family-friendly, check out the Autumn Fest Arts & Music Festival in Avondale Estates.  This festival has music, art and food plus kids’ activities.  Don’t miss “The Reptile Wagon” presented by the Southeastern Snake Encounter on Saturday from 1 pm to 1:45 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 12:45 pm.  http://www.avondalearts.org/

King of Pops Annual Field Day at Masqarade Music Park, Sunday, October 21st, 12 noon to 8 pm.
This is only the second annual Field Day and last year’s event got rave reviews.  If you have active kids this is the place for you.  There are carnival games, field day games (aka running around) plus a ping pong tournament.  And of course, there will be plenty of pops to enjoy.  There is no entry fee and free pops for all, but some of the games and activities will have a cost.  The proceeds of the event benefit Wholesome Wave Georgia, a non-profit organization encouraging the community to patronize farmers markets and locally grown food.  http://kingofpops.net/
