Coca-Cola Gives Latin American Association $25K

The grant to the Buford Highway group is part of a national hand-out to organizations dealing with everything from community issues to disaster relief.

The Coca-Cola Foundation awarded the Latin American Association, headquartered on Buford Highway, with a $25,000 grant, the company said Tuesday.

The grant was part of a larger, national hand-out to organizations dealing with everything from community issues to disaster relief.

"Every day, Coca-Cola partners with organizations that make a meaningful impact on community needs," said Lori George Billingsley, vice president for community relations at Coca-Cola, in a statement. "In the midst of uncertainty, such as after severe weather damage, the foundation and the entire Coca-Cola system are also there to help communities that need additional support."

About $1.6 million was given to nonprofits in the United States and Canada. Several Atlanta area groups were awarded grants today, including the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation and the Gateway Center.

The Latin American Association is dedicated to helping metro area Latino individuals and families improve their academic, social and economic advancement, according to their website. It serves more than 50,000 people each year.
