Your family's best bets in the area this week.

Spring is in the air and imaginations and sunflowers are blooming. This weekend, put away the boots and mittens and enjoy these.

  • MYTHIC CREATURES OPENING DAY CELEBRATION

When/Where: Saturday from 10:00am to 2:00pm at Fernbank Museum
Why Go: Just a short drive down the road, Fernbank is celebrating the opening of its newest special exhibition with games, giveaways, hands on activities, crafts and more.
Pricing: Included with museum admission: Adults $15.00; Students and Seniors (62+) $14.00; Children 3-12 $13.00; Children under 2 years old free.

  • ARTFUL STORIES

When/Where: Saturday from 10:00am to 11:15am in the Third Floor Galleries of the Carlos Museum
Why Go: A wonderful event for children ages 3 to 5 years old with accompanying adult(s). You will first listen to The Magic Gourd, a story from Mali written by Baba Waque Diakite, and then proceed to look at art from Mali in the Divine Intervention exhibition.  Children will also make their own mud cloths (as used in illustrating the book.)
Pricing: Free but registration is required by calling 404-727-0519.

  • FLAP JACKS AND A FLICK AT THE MOVIE TAVERN

When/Where: Saturday morning at 9:00am at the Northlake Movie Tavern.
Why Go: Start your day with all you can eat pancakes and a family movie.
Pricing: Children $9.00 and Adults $10.50.  

  • GIRL SCOUT COOKIE SALE

When/Where: Saturday 10:00am to 9:00pm and Sunday 12:00pm to 6:00pm at the Northlake Mall.
Why Go: While not the biggest event of the weekend, it might be the tastiest - and it supports your local Girl Scouts.  If you are out shopping at the mall, or if you simply are craving a box of your favorite treat, Girl Scout cookies will be for sale in the lower level food court.  
Pricing: $4.00 per box.

  • CREATE A SUNFLOWER

When/Where: Sunday from 2:00pm  to 4:00pm at Dip 'n Dab. Pre-registration ends 4 hours before class begins but walk-ins are welcome if space is available.
Why Go: Children will create their own Sunflower masterpiece in this drop-off painting class for children ages 5 to 12 years old.  
Pricing: $25.00 (Please call the store to register for a smaller camvas and receive $5.oo off.)
