The top five stories from the previous week in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

  1. : ' girls basketball team just keeps on moving forward much like it has all season. After beating Pickens County on Friday night, the team moves to the second round of the Class AAA tournament. Great news for the St. Pius community and anyone interested in local, high school basketball.
  2. : The DeKalb County Board of Education voted in December to allow to change its name to Druid Hills Middle School this summer. Michelle Hiskey looked at how that's affecting the school's yearbook staff, which has decided to take advantage of the change and turn their yearbook into a surprise. Good read and an important part of that community's history.
  3. : Patch contributor Alex Ewalt wrote a nice wrap-up for both Lakeside High School varsity basketball teams. The biggest news? The departure of boys head coach Larry Pierce, the team's winningest coach. The team looks at an even tougher year next season with 10 seniors leaving this spring.Β 
  4. : Patch contributor Tom Doolittle stopped by earlier this month to talk to students helping the school's private fundraising effort, The Valhalla Project. Those students hope to raise at least $50,000 to help pay for improvements to school athletic facilities.
  5. : Tons of people have jumped in on Patch's metrowide high school basketball bracket competition. Now that the first round of play is over, stay tuned to Patch for information regarding the second round.
