The Week in Review

The top five stories from the previous week in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

  1. : Tomorrow's the big day. The DeKalb County Board of Education will give final vote to an issue that's captivated/frustrated/interested the community for a good two months now: a school redistricting and closure plan. But as some local parents said, school system officials and board members haven't been as communicative as in weeks earlier.
  2. : North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch couldn't get a reporter to this game (too far away), but we've been covering the girls team all year, and it's been a great ride. Unfortunately, it ended Saturday night. Patch will have a wrap-up out sometime this week.
  3. : My favorite story of the week came at the expense of a local resident who walked into his home two weeks ago to discover he had been robbed. But the thief left a box of chocolates for him. Is that a wash? No. ... No, I guess it's not. I'd freak out if someone stole my television. But here's a good question: If your house got robbed, and the thief left you a box of chocolates... would you eat them?
  4. : I'd probably put this at No. 5 normally, but it was the most read story of the week. For the second time since Christmas break, school officials had to lock down due to concerns over student safety. This time a student called in–impersonating the voice of an older man–threatening violence.
  5. : Patch editor Tim Darnell went to Thursday's public forum on the school system's school redistricting and closure plan and recorded parents and residents from across the county who attended to voice their concerns.
