The Week in Review

The top five stories from the previous week in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

  1. : This story has been super popular across the metro Atlanta area–particularly Decatur–since the movie began shooting around these parts in the winter. When Patch discovered it was shooting in our neck of the woods, we pounced on it. We'd be stupid not to. Look at that headline. Usually we'd try for something more clever, but putting the words "Jennifer Garner" and "movie" in the same headline guarantees hundreds of site visits from points across the globe that will continue for months, maybe even years from now. Hence, Patch's No. 1 story. Cha-ching.
  2. : This story's been going on for a two months now. It's also generated the most discussion on North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch since the site launched in December. Patch hopes to continue covering this story as it progresses, though with Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School's principal scheduled to leave at the end of the year–and the principal, understandably, not talking to the press–there won't be much to update until the archdiocese in Atlanta names a new principal.
  3. : This story predates North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch by a couple years, but we're coming up on a milestone in this plan, which, if approved, could reshape the area in which we live. Next month, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners could consider and adopt the study, which would be part of the the county's larger, comprehensive development plan.
  4. : DeKalb County formally cut the ribbon on the first phase of renovations to Mason Mill Park. Construction on a dog park is scheduled to begin soon.
  5. : A somewhat rare crime for this area. Most armed robberies in our area are relegated to the Buford Highway corridor, but populated commercial areas such as Northlake and the area near the intersection of Briarcliff and North Druid Hills roads can see their share as well. But this was particularly serious as two armed robbers forced deli employees back into the restaurant to clear out their safes. The restaurant lost nearly $4,000.
