The Week in Review

The top five stories from the previous week in the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

  1. : The pseudo-saga over the sale price of 6 acres for a new park on Lavista Road continues. We've run a few stories on the somewhat complicated reasons why the land is selling for much, much more than DeKalb County's assessed value of the land. Commissioners Jeff Rader and Kathie Gannon continue to pursue this purchase.
  2. : There's only one thing I'm certain about with this story: Most people, I'm sure, would rather have a Trader Joe's than a Walmart. Why? I don't know. I've walked into Trader Joe's. I only remember all the stock boys wearing Hawaiian shirts.
  3. : It'll be interesting to see if residents of this neighborhood can stop the DeKalb County School System's pursuit of cell towers on school properties across the county for sweet, sweet T-Mobile cash. Medlock's been battered a little bit over the last several months what with the closure of Medlock Elementary School. Now, T-Mobile wants to stash a cell tower on top of the empty school. People, understandably, aren't thrilled.
  4. : People love crime stories. Here's a particularly alarming one. Though that area around North DeKalb Mall has the occasional crime problem.
  5. : Pastors at the Unitarian Universalist like jumping into to state politics, it seems – or at least as far as this immigration law is concerned. Expect more on this in the next week or two.
