Watson's Plea

A rescued doggie named Watson and Animal Action Rescue need immediate help.

When people visit a shelter to find the perfect addition to their families, injured animals, older dogs and cats, brindle and black coats, mutts and other “less desireables” are often overlooked for specialty breeds and younger animals.

This is Watson's predicament.

Animal Action Rescue has this to say about Watson, after meeting him at DeKalb Animal Services and Enforcement:

“He was so sweet and gentle, and he gave the tiniest little kisses once outside of his pen. [The volunteer] noticed that he was favoring his back, right leg and that it was swollen. Watson had other injuries consistent with abuse including a broken upper canine, a missing lower canine and a large scar on the top of his head. Like other special needs dogs that [Animal Action] has rescued in the past, we knew there was the possibility that he would need costly surgery; however, the chances of a large, underweight, brindle dog with a limp getting out of animal control was slim to none.”

Animal Action is hoping this story will move you to help Watson get back on his paws.

Dr. Matt Corse, a veterinarian at Northlake Veterinary Surgery, has determined that this sweet boy will need extensive surgery in order to live the remainder of his life comfortably.

As a result of his once broken, improperly healed leg, which most likely resulted from some form of abuse, Watson will need a bone spur removed; he needs his kneecap socket deepened; he needs his bones realigned; and it's likely he'll need future surgeries to correct the angle of his hip, femur and knee.

These operations will cost Animal Action $1,700 to $2,500.

The rescue group's call to the community: “Despite his mistreatment by humans early in his life, Watson is nothing but kind and gentle. He has the sweetest temperament and loves everyone he meets. Please help us give this wonderful boy a second chance at the life he deserves.”

Watson's surgery could happen as soon as Wednesday, Jan. 12. Animal Action is seeking tax deductible donations for Watson.
