Community Corner

It's Spooky to be Hungry!

Oak
Grove United Methodist Church in Decatur is coordinating a community-wide food
drive October 19-26. The food drive is called It’s Spooky to Be Hungry, and volunteers will distribute empty
grocery bags and a letter explaining the program Saturday, October 19
throughout area neighborhoods. Residents are asked to fill the bags with
groceries and leave them on the front step the following Saturday morning.
Volunteers will return on Saturday, October 26 to collect the bags of
food.  The food will be distributed
through the Toco Hills Community Alliance food bank. The program started
several years ago with 1,500 bags distributed. In 2012, It’s Spooky to Be Hungry collected an estimated $30,000 worth of
food from 3,600 residents. This year 5,000 bags will be distributed. It’s Spooky to Be Hungry brings
neighborhoods together to help people in need, and it is a great family
activity. Volunteers for this year’s drive are welcome to come to Oak Grove United
Methodist Church on Saturday, October 26, 2013, from Noon until 4 p.m. to help
sort and pack the food.
