Immaculate Heart of Mary Student Honored for Heroism During House Fire

The seventh-grade girl acted fast to help save her family during a house fire this summer.

From Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School:

Firefighters from the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Station 8 and Station 1, along with Mr. Jim Lee, principal of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic School, honored 7th grade student Lily Massey, for her act of heroism during a house fire on June 24.

Lily, age 12, awoke to the sound of a smoke detector and the smell of smoke.  She alerted her parents and everyone was able to escape the house without injury.  Within minutes of the 911 call, firefighters from Stations 1, 2, 8, 9, 19 and 22 responded.  The house was a total loss.

During a school assembly Fire Chiefs presented Lily with one of their highest awards, the Life Saving Award for her act of heroism.  In addition, Mr. Lee gave Lily the IHM Hero Award for her quick actions and calm thinking.
