As my older son gets more active in our local Boy Scouts (Troop 77), I'm learning more about the hard work that goes into reaching the rank of Eagle Scout.
I'd always known it was the highest honor in Scouting, but I had the opportunity to attend the Eagle Scout Court of Honor last Sunday at for William Ian Parvin-Asher. As part of the ceremony, the Troop leaders talked about all the different levels that Ian had to achieve. At the same time, he was excelling in school and sports.
For his Eagle project, Ian completed some major work at the First Christian Church of Decatur. He planned, developed and led the effort to remove a badly deteriorated wooded retaining wall and replace it with a new structure made of concrete masonry units. He even buried a small time capsule under the new wall!
