Oak Grovians Helping Others This Month

Oak Grove residents are supporting neighbors in need.

Our neighbors around Oak Grove are wonderful about helping others.  Two great examples I've heard about this week involve helping find a cure for childhood cancer and helping a local boy stricken with a serious illness.

For several years, local fourth-grader Evan Kupersmith and his dad, who goes by "Kupe," have shaved their heads as part of an event in support of the St. Baldrick's Foundation. They raise money to help find cures to childhood cancer.   Evan grows out his big head of red hair (see photo) all year in preparation for this. His buddy, Reid Ramsey, is going to get shaven as well.

At restaurant on March 24 they'll have their hair shaved in honor of the kids that have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. You can click on this link (http://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/505983/2012) to donate to the cause. As a bonus, I'm told Evan's band will be playing that night too.

Many of you have heard about Jason Tyler, a local eighth-grader who in December suffered a traumatic brain injury. No one knows what caused his injury and his family is struggling to care for him. A group of our neighbors has put together a Pasta Night fundraiser on March 16. Donations have come in from the , Napoleon's, and .

Their goal is to serve about 500 meals, and I understand that while they've got a lot of reservations there's still time to participate. Here's a link to more info: http://misstwiggley.wufoo.com/forms/leafmore-pasta-night-for-jason-tyler/
