Lakeside/LCA to raise our taxes for lawsuits?

I've been following the debate, and the money trail, regarding Lakeside's potential for unnecessary tax increases under their administration. It's concerning to me as a taxpayer.  Here is a synopsis from many threads to chew on and discuss. I invite opinions from any side.  Posters have revealed the following facts:

-- Lakeside's primary financial backer is a local legal firm who are front row present at LCA events.

-- When political campaigns receive significant financial support from firms, it is customary and expected in US politics that their support will be repaid with favors.

-- There is nothing wrong with rewarding corporate support. It is customary in politics. It only becomes a problem if communities are forcec to pay for frivolous lawsuits that only benefit certain individuals, as opposed to using these funds for tangible commu ntih improvements.

-- This legal firm was a major backer of Brookhaven as well.  In repayment for this support, they've been allowed to sue legal, properly-zoned businesses to close. This is being done under a cloak of "morality control," with no regard to free enterprise.  If morality (and not money) was truly the point, Brookhaven would work to revise their codes. As it is, they are targeting honest business owners.

-- This is being CHARGED TO Brookhaven residents as A TAX INCREASE.

-- Lakeside will be beholden to the same financial backers as Brookhaven. It is a real concern that Lakeside would follow suit in our area with unnecessary tax increases to repay the lawyers.

-- This tax increase is leaving no benefit to the community. Only the lawyers will see gain. Rather than use these funds for real community improvement, this money is going toward frivolous cases they may not even win. But the taxpayers are being forced to pay for it anyway.

-- Briarcliff, in contrast, is beholden to neighborhoods and individuals, not legal firms.

-- Briarcliff representatives take the time and effort to respond to citizen posts here on our primary community forum. Lakeside does not care to take the time to do so.
