Are County Police Doing a Good Job?

A survey is being conducted to gauge the effectiveness of DeKalb County police.

The DeKalb County Police Department is conducting a survey of its citizens to gather impressions about county police services and how well they do their job.

The image of the county's police took a hit last month when two officers assigned to the Tucker Precinct were arrested and charged with corruption. County police services have also been cited by frustrated residents as a reason to start a new city around the Lakeside High School area.

The 11-question survey is designed to glean feedback from county residents about police services such as response times, roadside assistance, traffic citations and satisfaction with the level of assistance citizens received from the police department. The results will be provided to the police chief for his use in planning and achieving the goals of the police department.

Residents can complete the survey anonymously, or provide comments and contact information. The deadline to complete the survey is March 31.

The DeKalb County Police Department is based at West Exchange Place in Tucker.

The survey is available here

The DeKalb County Police Department is one of the most useless pathetic organizations ever. First off the 911 operators are awful. You can't understand them and the are slow and unhelpful. The offices are slow and rude. Sometimes taking an hour to respond to an emergency call is ridiculous. On top of that when they arrive many are found to be rude and uncaring. I have been horrified by the joke they call DeKalb Police and hope to move soon in order to escape that pathetic waste of tax dollars.

AGREED! I was on Orion Drive yesterday riding my bicycle and at the corner of Orion and Hwy 29. I looked left and right after stopping at the end of the entrance to the Little Creek Farm. I crossed the road to get on the right side and a car full of young black males was speeding as they turned right into Orion. I did not even see them! They were driving fast and had to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. You can see the tire marks. Then they drove in front of me and cussed me out yelling obscenities. They must have been going 50 mph. A neighbor came rushing out and we called the police. I asked them to do a drive by and gave a description of the car, but the car sped away and I could not get the plate numbers. I was in shock. The police never arrived after I told them exactly where I was. I went on biking. Useless!

I know a lot of people on Hollywood and Orion Drives are complaining of thieves robbing and breaking into homes and cars. Since I ride every day between 2pm and 5pm or so I keep an eye out for any suspicious characters and I have stopped a couple of them. I would be more than happy to wear some sort of neighborhood watch shirt/sticker so that any would be thieves may be leery. I carry my iPhone for pics and calling 911. So, if anyone needs their home watched please let me know and I shall be on the lookout. Tell your neighbors and stop me on the bike and I shall note location. Talking with neighbors we are trying to find a way to stop speeders as well. Any ideas and comments are welcome.

This was outside my biking time, but here we go. Break in on Hollywood, again. http://www.crimemapping.com/Map.aspx?x=-9380861.50349723&y=4002578.60319439&iid=88391181&db=3/21/2013&de=3/21/2013

Okay, I think I am going to start a new petition for Dekalb to put up speeding signs and lets get pictures of plates. These should be on Orion and Hollywood Drives. I cannot begin to tell you how many people speed by me as I am bicycling. Even USPS. Sign the petition: https://www.change.org/petitions/dekalb-county-commissioner-put-up-speed-detection-devices
