Armed Robber Holds Up Oak Grove Subway

The thief took $500 when he fled shortly before 7pm yesterday, according to DeKalb County police.

An armed robber stole $500 from a restaurant in Oak Grove yesterday evening, DeKalb County police said.

The suspect walked into the sandwich shop at 2858 Lavista Rd. at about 6:15pm with a bandanna across his face and pointed a gun at a shop employee and demanded he open the register, according to a police report. When the employee told the robber he didn't have the key for the register, the robber took $500 in cash that was sitting on top of the safe under the counter.

The robber forced the employee to the rear of the store, demanding that he get in the freezer. When the employee refused, he told the employee to sit on a chair in the back. The robber went out the back door but immediately returned and told the employee he was going to kill him if he didn't give him more money.

The suspect didn't want to return to the front of the store, however, so he asked the employee to get the money from the register. The employee approached the register, but when he realized the suspect was not going to follow him, he simply walked out the front door. As he looked back, he saw the suspect leaving through the back again.

The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black coat, black pants and a black skull cap in addition to the bandanna.
