Shots were fired at Briarcliff Apartment Homes, 3015 Briarcliff Gables Circle, on September 18, police said.

A witness was in the parking lot between a building and a parking deck around 7:20 p.m. when he heard shots fired inside the parking deck. Then the witness saw a black Volkswagen Jetta trying to push the gate open so the driver could exit the complex. When the gate open, the Jetta drove off and then a suspect walked towards it, shooting a chrome-plated revolver. The suspect then limped off to his own car, a new-model Chevrolet Camaro, and drove away too.

A police officer found the Jetta driver in the parking lot of a nearby CVS and spoke to him. He said that at 1 p.m., the suspect was at the victim’s apartment and preparing to leave, but then he took the victim’s phone and ran out the front door. The victim confronted the suspect, who began fighting with him and then sprayed him in the face with mace before leaving with the victim’s cell phone. The victim then went to Crawford Long hospital for treatment.

Later that day, the victim was the one driving the Jetta. He was entering the parking deck and saw the suspect parked in his car, so he went to exit. The suspect damaged his car.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male, slim, with a muscular build, wearing a white tank top, a white do-rag and dark workout shorts.

Burglary on Spring Creek Road

A burglary occurred on the 2200 block of Spring Creek Road on September 20, police said.

The victim said she left her house at about 9:30 a.m. that day and returned around 2 p.m. that same day, noticing forced entry through the guest bedroom window. She saw that someone had removed the sheets from her bed and that a bottle of liquor worth $30 that she’d purchased the day before was missing. Some drawers were opened as well.

The victim said that she’d hired a company in May to remove some trees from her property, but that the work was completed in June. However, someone working for that company knew the victim’s security system code.

She said that she would change her security system code right away.

Prostitution sting at Masters Inn Hotel

A member of the DeKalb County Vice Unit conducted a prostitution sting at the Masters Inn Hotel, 1435 Montreal Road, on September 15, police said.

The sting was performed on a woman who called herself Kandy and advertised on www.backpage.com. On the Backpage ad, there were photos of her posing in lewd positions. She told the vice officer that she charged $80 for half an hour and $120 for an hour, then arranged for them to meet at the hotel. While the officer was en route to the hotel, Kandy sent him a lewd photo of herself by phone.

The vice officer arrived at the room and met Kandy, at which point she attempted to take off his clothes. He then called for a uniformed officer to respond and take her into custody. She was taken to jail without incident and was placed under arrest for prostitution.
