DeKalb Police Call Precinct Consolidation "A Positive Move"

A DeKalb Police spokesman said the consolidation of precincts will achieve "more manpower per precinct to address crime."

As of Sunday, the DeKalb County Police Department's North Precinct in Dunwoody is closed permanently in what a DeKalb County Police Department Spokesman said is a "positive move."

The decision to close the North Precinct after 26 years of service was the result of the incorporation of Dunwoody and Brookhaven, which each now have their own police departments.

The county plans to combine resources of its North and Central precincts to form a single precinct, according to a statement from Public Education Specialist Ed Fowler.

The 28 officers who had patrolled Brookhaven before the community incorporated and created its own police department will now patrol other parts of DeKalb County.

Fowler goes on to state:
"This is a positive move for DeKalb County Police Department. Former North areas north of 285 will be assigned to Tucker Precinct and former North areas south of 285 will be assigned to Center Precinct.

This move and combination will achieve the following:
1) Better departmental efficiency,
2) More manpower per precinct to address crime,
3) Increased traffic enforcement,
4) More specialized precinct patrol,
5) Higher visibility."
