DeKalb Police, Fire Holding Fundraiser Tonight at Blue Ribbon Grill

The Northlake restaurant will donate 15 percent of its dinner service proceeds to a DeKalb County memorial project created to honor Sept. 11 victims.

DeKalb County's Public Safety department is trying to help a local effort to building a Sept. 11 memorial in this county, and you can help out tonight by eating out in Northlake.

The Blue Ribbon Grill at 4006 Lavista Rd. has agreed to donate 15 percent of its dinner service proceeds between 5pm and 9pm to the 9/11 Memorial Project spearheaded by county firefighter Doug Harms. The memorial is scheduled to be unveiled during this year's 10-year commemoration of the attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania, according to a county statement.

On display at the restaurant tonight will be the piece of steel from the World Trade Center that will serve as the focal element of the DeKalb County Sept. 11 memorial. Various members of the Public Safety deparment will also be in attendance.

The monument will be located in front of DeKalb County Fire and Police Headquarters in Tucker. It will honor to the 343 New York firefighters, 60 New York and Port Authority police officers and other victims who died in the terrorist attacks. The memorial, a sculpture by artist Curtis James Miller, will depict a Phoenix wing rising from the ground. It will serve as a background for the piece of World Trade Center steel and will represent the United States' resolve to rise above the tragedy.

The memorial will also inform visitors of all the events that transpired on Sept. 11, 2001.
