A man with a handgun robbed the IHOP, 2741 Clairmont Road, near the Briarcliff Road intersection Thursday evening, according to a DeKalb police report.

A witness told police the suspect ordered hot chocolate and water before showing a note which said on the back that he had a gun and that he wanted all the money in the cash register. According to the report, the suspect said, "Give me the money in the register," showed a black handgun on his hip and then told the employee, "Give me all the money now."

The suspect reportedly pointed the gun at the employee before placing it on the counter next to the register. The suspect grabbed the money from the register and fled behind the restaurant.

An officer responded to the robbery at approximately 6:20 p.m. Thursday, the report said.

A witness told police that the suspect was on foot headed in the direction of the Oaks Apartments on Briarcliff at a "high rate of speed."

No further information was immediately available on the suspect. The investigation was turned over to detectives, the report said.

This is disturbing considering the shooting around the corner at Waffle House a few weeks back. The new QT across the street is my gas station of choice. I fill up there typically coming home at night from work. Having a robbery at 6:20pm is high risk. Not sure if anyone else feels this way, but I'm hesitant to bank around businesses with such close highway access (mother was a teller and was held up before at a bank 1/4 mile from a highway).

How exactly is this "Breaking News" almost 24 hours after the fact? While I appreciate the information, the delay is a bit ridiculous.
