Juvenile Shot Outside Montclair Elementary

The school was locked down Thursday morning after the incident.

A 12-year-old boy was shot behind on Thursday morning.

The child, appararently playing hooky from school with two other youths, was wounded when one of the children fired a gun, according to the AJC.

The incident happened about 50 yards from the school in a wooded area, DeKalb Police told the AJC.

The boy was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, CBS Atlanta reported. The AJC is reporting that the child is in moderate to serious condition.

Police also told the AJC that investigators believe the children had skipped school on Thursday with the intention of committing some burglaries.

None of the children attend Montclair, police said. Police are still trying to find out who fired the gun.

11Alive is reporting that the shooting took place between Dover Station Apartments and Montclair on Clairmont Place.

The station also said two teens are being detained in connection with the shooting.
