Leafmore Burglars Disguised as Gas Company Workers?

The victim of a burglary in the Leafmore community this month told DeKalb County police he noticed suspects possibly posing as gas company employees before the crime was committed.

The victim, who lives in the 2100 block of Tanglewood Road, said he saw two men wearing traffic vests standing in a neighboring yard, possibly posing as a workers for a private gas company searching for gas lines at about 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14, the police report said. Another man was parked inside a burgundy pickup truck across the street.

The burglary occurred between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The home's carport door was forced open, and a flatscreen TV and a laptop worth more than $1,000 together were stolen.

A responding police officer canvassed the area in search of the suspects and the truck but found nothing.

Atlanta Gas Light has been working in the Leafmore and Creek Park communities – and the larger North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area as a whole – for part of its Eastside Pipeline Project, which will connect Atlanta Gas Light’s Riverdale liquified natural gas facility in Clayton County with a connection point in the company’s transmission system at the intersection of Clairmont Road and Buford Highway – a 28-mile distance.

The Eastside Pipeline Project is part of the company’s larger pipeline replacement program, a 15-year effort to fix exposed and unprotected pieces of gas pipeline.

Some of that work has included Tanglewood Road.
