Man Robbed at Gunpoint Outside Apartment

About $250 in cash and a cell phone was stolen from the 21-year-old victim.

A resident of the Highland Lake apartment complex was robbed at gunpoint while walking to his car Jan. 5, DeKalb County police said.

The 21-year-old victim was approaching his car in the parking lot when he was confronted by the suspect sometime before 8 p.m., the police report said.

"Get on the ground," the suspect said.

The victim felt what he thought was a hangun on the right side of his rib cage, so he got down on his knees and elbows.

"Empty your pockets," the suspect said.

The victim surrendered his wallet containing $250 in cash, his cell phone and his car key to the suspect. He turned his head and saw the robber was carrying a black or dark gray handgun.

The suspect patted the sides of his legs and his pockets and told him to run away. The victim ran past his building and the suspect fled on foot toward the complex's security gate on Clairmont Road.
