A man currently in a Florida jail on burglary and grand theft auto charges has been charged by DeKalb County police with the 2013 shooting death of a rapper who was fatally wounded while driving his brand new Maybach.
Christopher Dyer has been charged with murder in connection the shooting death of James D. Lewiel, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The victim, whose stage name was OG Double Dee, was part of a well known hip-hop team named Freebandz.
Lewiel, 42, was driving his new luxury car on Interstate 20 near the Glenwood Avenue exit on April 11, 2013, when he was shot. Investigators said someone pulled alongside the rap artist and fired nine times through the vehicle’s double-pane windows.
Lewiel’s family members told the newspaper that he visited South DeKalb Mall twice on the day he was killed and they believe he was followed from the mall.
Dyer, 25, has been in jail in Ocala, FL, since March on burglary and grand theft auto charges from Volusia County, FL. He is also wanted in Palm Beach County, FL, on unknown charges, according to jail records.
DeKalb police spokesman Capt. Stephen Fore told the newspaper that Dyer is awaiting extradition from Florida to DeKalb County.
