North Druid Hills Man Robbed at Gunpoint Outside Apartment

A man carrying a gun robbed the victim of his cell phone on Druid Oaks Drive on Jan. 8.

A North Druid Hills man was robbed while going to get the mail outside his apartment Jan. 8, DeKalb County police said.

The 41-year-old victim was walking in front of the apartment complex at 2300 Druid Oaks Dr. at about 7:40pm, the police report said. A suspect carrying a black, semiautomatic handgun approached him from behind and said, "Gimme what you got."

The victim emptied his pockets, including a cell phone and his keys, and the suspect patted him down to make sure there was nothing else. The suspect hopped into the passenger side of a red minivan waiting nearby and drove toward the complex's exit, the report said.

The victim's Samsung cell phone was valued at about $100.

"The victim's Samsung cell phone was valued at about $100." I wonder what the value of his peace of mind is.

Considerably more, I'm sure. It's important to note, however, that you're at a much greater risk of something like this living in an apartment complex like this than you are in a house. I don't have the full statistics, and it might be 50/50 in our neighborhood, but I think crime like this tends to favor apartment complexes.
