Police Respond to Rash of Car Break-Ins

Four break-ins occurred near Scott Boulevard between July 15 and Monday.

DeKalb County police responded to a series of car break-ins near Scott Boulevard in North Decatur between July 15 and Monday.

A 23-year-old Mableton man told police someone broke into his 2005 Toyota 4 Runner in the 1600 block of Scott Boulevard on July 15 between about 7:30pm and 10pm. The thief stole an mp3 player worth $139 and perfume worth about $100, according to the police report.

Two days later, a 64-year-old Bristol, TN, man was working a part-time job in Patel Plaza, 1709 Church St. He told police he left his 2006 Toyota Sienna unlocked and someone stole 30 pieces of clothing worth about $1,000, a $2,000 gold chain, a $1,000 watch, $400 in cash and medication, among other items, between 11:30am and 11:45am.

About two hours later, a 58-year-old Glen Allen, VA, man told police he parked his 2007 GMC truck in a parking lot in the 760 block of DeKalb Industrial Way at about 1:45pm. When he returned about 15 minutes later, he saw someone had broken the passenger side lock and stolen $500 in luggage, medication and a company check book.

On Monday, a 16-year-old Decatur girl told police she parked her car at 1845 Lawrenceville Highway and walked across the street to at about 7pm. When she returned the passenger side window of her car was shattered, the police report said. The only thing stolen was an orange bag containing her lifeguard uniform.
