Toco Hill Verizon Wireless Robbed at Gunpoint

Cash and a cell phone were stolen during the Friday afternoon incident.

Toco Hill's Verizon Wireless store was robbed at gunpoint Friday afternoon, DeKalb County police said.

Two suspects – one carrying a handgun – walked into the store at 2996 North Druid Hills Road shortly after 3 p.m., the police report said. Two store employees behind the counter dropped to the ground, and the armed suspect approached them.

"Open it!" the suspect said while the second suspect remained near the front door.

One of the employees opened the cash register and gave the suspect the money. The suspect then approached a third victim on the customer side of the counter and demanded his wallet. The victim handed it over.

The armed suspect then demanded one of the cell phones, and the employee unlocked it from a display, gave it to him, and the suspects fled the building, heading east along Azalea Circle.

Nearly $600 in cash and nearly $700 in merchandise was stolen, the report said.

The first suspect was described as a black male about 5 feet 8 inches tall and about 145 pounds. He carried the gun – possibly a .45-caliber semiautomatic – and wore a red long sleeved shirt, blue jeans, blue low-top Nike sneakers and a black ski mask. Witnesses did not give a detailed description of the second suspect.
