Board Narrows List of Animal Shelter Sites to Three

All the remaining sites sit within close proximity to the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area.

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners narrowed a list of potential sites across the county for a new animal shelter and settled on just three Tuesday.

Some good news for the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area: They're all nearby.

The board chose a site near DeKalb Peachtree Airport and Chamblee Dunwoody Road, another at an abandoned car dealership off Lawrenceville Highway and a third at John's Homestead Park (a site that rankled some residents), according to wsbtv.com.

From the story:

At least one commissioner is leaning toward the park site.

"That would probably be one of my favorites, just because we could take land we own that we purchased with park bond money. It's 40 to 50 acres, which the whole community, right off 285, could get to and enjoy," DeKalb commissioner Elaine Boyer said.
