City of Briarcliff Initiative Raises $30,000 for Cityhood Study

More than half of the donations came from "individual citizens," the group said.

The City of Briarcliff Initiative has raised $30,000 for a state-mandated cityhood study that would suggest whether a city across the North Druid Hills-Briarcliff area would be viable.

The group made the announcement on its website recently and said more than half of its donations came from "individual citizens." Almost all of the rest came from local neighborhood associations, according to a graphic created by the group.

The group, which has suggested a city that would stretch from Atlanta and Decatur's city limits in Druid Hills north to Mercer University and east to I-285, including the Scottdale area, now joins the Lakeside City Alliance, which recently announced it was first to raise $30,000 for its study, which will be done by the Carl Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia.
