County CEO to Discuss Tax Hike Proposal Tonight

Patch will cover the community meeting live from Leafmore Creek Park Clubhouse.

DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis has been meeting with various neighborhoods and communities across the county to talk about his proposed 2011 budget, which calls for increasing property taxes by 11 percent.

Tonight, Eillis will meet with DeKalb residents at the Leafmore Creek Park Clubhouse, 1373 Altamont Drive, Decatur, and North Druid Hills-Briarcliff Patch will cover it live, starting at 7pm.

Ellis’ proposed $563 million budget would cut more than 750 county jobs to make up for $50 million in lost real estate and sales taxes.

If adopted, county residents would see a property tax rate increase of 2.32 mills. For an average county home, appraised at $190,000, that would be an increase of $264 a year in property tax bills.
